Two of the most-loved franchises in history, LEGO and Star Wars have a long history together. As the first license the toy company gained, what started as a humble brick X-Wing quickly morphed into a bit of a phenomenon, with LEGO set after LEGO set hitting stores based on the famous sci-fi series. Then came the tie-in games, with the inaugural LEGO Star Wars game kickstarting what may as well be an entire genre of its own - of co-op, kid friendly film tie-ins that have become a staple of our gaming diet for more than a decade now. With Star Wars: The Force Awakens having lit up cinema screens last year, we're now just a few short days away from the release of the latest LEGO game, the cunningly named LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens. And we're getting excited.

Hitting stores next Tuesday (the 28th), LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens follows the events of the latest Star Wars film of the same name, whilst also speculating on what happened in the years between episodes six and seven. Set some thirty years after the destruction of the second Death Star, legendary Jedi Luke Skywalker has disappeared - and the nefarious First Order has risen from the ashes of the fallen Vader-ites, with its sights set firmly on the New Republic government. The Resistance, led by Leia, opposes them whilst searching for their long lost Luke, enlisting the help of two newcomers - the scavenger Rey, ace pilot Poe and escaped Stormtrooper Finn to track him down, as well as everyone's favourite double team Han Solo and Chewbacca.

The game features levels based on events that happened in between the two films - such as how Han came upon his cargo of Rathtars.

All retold in the adorably slapstick and silly Lego style, we're probably more excited for Traveller's Tales retelling than we were for the film itself, and to help drum up a bit more interest for the upcoming game, Warner Bros. have released a number of character-specific trailers to give you a taste for what to expect next week. Jam-packed with snippets that show everything from emo bad guy Kylo Ren brooding in his bedroom to BB-8 playing football with some Stormtroopers, they're well worth a watch, and really set the tone for what to expect from the game - although if you've played a Lego game any time in the last decade, you'll probably already have a good idea. We're sure there'll be plenty of bad guy bashing, scenery smashing and light puzzle solving, alongside the more Star Wars standards of lightsaber battles and flying sections too, all playable in two player co-operative. Why not check out the trailers for yourself below, which we've kindly arranged in ascending order, from the film's worst characters to it's best:

Kylo Ren

Poe

BB-8

Finn

When picking up your copy of the game, you have a couple of options - the standard game comes with a couple of freebies if you pick it up on a Playstation format (which seems to mean PS4 or PS3, as the Vita version doesn't appear to have it), in the form of the Droid Character Pack and the Phantom Limb Level Pack, although how substantial they'll be, we don't know. Those who want to push the boat out however, can plump for the LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens Deluxe Edition for either the Playstation 4 or the Xbox One, which comes in a fetching gold box, with a real life mini-figure of Finn included, as well as a 'Season Pass' which gives you access to a whole host of add-ons as and when they become available later in the year - it is a GAME store exclusive however.

LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be swooping onto the Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, 3DS and PC (via Steam) next Tuesday, on the 28th June. If you still haven't had enough LEGO Star Wars goodness in your life, why not check out last week's E3 trailer below:
