Inside LEGO Dimensions Wave 6: A guide to the packs

September goes out with a bang, as LEGO Dimensions' Year 2 gets into full swing with a collection of fun, team and level packs - alongside the all new story pack

Inside LEGO Dimensions Wave 6 A guide to the packs
30th September, 2016 By Ian Morris

While LEGO Dimensions may not be seeing a brand new, numbered instalment this year, there's still plenty of new stuff coming out to tempt you to part with your cash. Instead of going the disc based route, Warner are instead releasing a number of extra figures in fun packs, team packs, level packs, and all new story packs to keep the adventure going. There's a huge variety of new characters and franchises set to be added into the game over the next 12 months, from Sonic to Harry Potter (check out our post about the new LEGO Dimensions characters from the initial announcement for a complete list), but things kick off today, the 30th September, with the arrival of Wave 6. So, let's take a look at what's on offer, working our way up in order of increasing expensiveness.

New franchises = New adventure hubs

Wave 6 adds an impressive five brand new franchises to the game world, increasing its eclectic mix. As always, buying any of the packs below will also allow you access to their respective adventure world - an all new hub full of quests, collectibles, and things to see and do. The new franchises are as follows:

  • Harry Potter
  • Ghostbusters (girl variety)
  • The A-Team
  • Adventure Time
  • Mission Impossible

Fun Packs

A-Team Fun Pack

Bundling one figure with one vehicle, the fun packs are the cheapest of the LEGO Dimensions offerings (and even then, cheap is probably relative, as they weigh in at £15 each). Wave 6 may only bring with it the one fun pack, but it's a goodie - B.A. Baracus, of "I pity the fool" fame, who comes clutching a nasty looking spanner. He's paired with B.A.'s Van, with the infamous red stripe down the side, making it the perfect ride to teach fools who don't respect their mothers a valuable lesson.

Team Packs

Team Packs are essentially a doubled up version of a Fun Pack, bundling two figures with two vehicles for ~£25 - perfect for co-op fun. With Wave 6 featuring two such team packs, it's arguably the first that has us the most excited, as it's only mother flipping Harry Potter.

Harry Potter Team Pack

Bundling Harry Potter himself in with he-who-shall-not-be-named (whisper it - Voldermort) (we're slightly miffed it's not Hagrid), this pack also includes an "Enchanted Car" (otherwise known as a Ford Anglia) and the Hogwarts Express train - which we can only imagine we're going to have plenty of fun with, as we flatten everyone in sight. Will it replace Gimli's Mine Cart as the best vehicle in the game though? Only time will tell...

Adventure Time Team Pack

Bringing up the rear, meanwhile, is the Adventure Time Team Pack, a collection that bundles Lumpy Space Princess and the always weird looking Jake the Dog alongside BMO and her royal lumpyness' Lumpy Car. As always, buying either Team Pack will get you access to their respective adventure worlds - and all characters can be used throughout the entire game.

Level Packs

Level Packs are slightly more substantial offerings, bundling one minifig in with two vehicles, and, most importantly, an all new level to play through. There are two new Level Packs in Wave 6, and each will set you back ~£25:

Adventure Time Level Pack

First up is the Adventure Time Level Pack, which offers another rather different take on the wacky TV series. Bundling Finn the Human in with an Ancient War Elephant and the weird Jakemobile, it makes it something of a tough choice for Adventure Time fans, who will no doubt be torn between the Team Pack and Level Pack. If you only get one, we'd lean towards getting the Level Pack, as it gives you that little bit extra to play through - but big fans of Lumpy Space Princess may want to pick up the Team Pack instead.

Mission Impossible Level Pack

Starring a LEGO Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt, the Mission Impossible Level Pack bundles an IMF Scrambler and an IMF Sport Car (which makes this most likely a mini LEGO version of a BMW i8) together with an all new level for the game. As far as we can tell, this is probably based on the one-but-latest Mission Impossible film, Ghost Protocol, although if we're wrong, we're sure you'll let us know.

Story Packs

Ghostbusters Story Pack

And finally, the last (but also most impressive) LEGO Wave 6 expansion is the Ghostbusters Story Pack. Based on the recent all-female "reboot" of the film, the Ghostbusters Story Pack packs in six levels, one minifig (Abby Yates), one vehicle (the Ecto-1), and enough LEGO bricks to build yourself an all-new portal base. Weighing in at ~£30, from both a gameplay and LEGO perspective, these are some of the best value packs around - and we'll bring you a full review very soon.
