Well let me tell you something, Mean Gene - it's been a while since a new wrestling game was announced that genuinely attempted to do something new, and Hulk Hogan's Main Event is it. Using Microsoft's Kinect sensor in perhaps its most inventive way yet, Hulk Hogan's Main Event will put you in the middle of a wrestling match, as you're trained in the ways of the pro wrestler by arguably the biggest name to ever grace a wrestling ring, the Immortal Hulk Hogan.
After creating your own wrestler, choosing everything from your hair to your entrance music, you'll step inside the gym with the Hulkster himself, as he teaches you everything you need to know about being a pro wrestler, from how to whip the crowd into a frenzy, to how to perform over 30 different moves, and iconic Hulk poses - we'd imagine there are going to be a lot of torn shirts by the time this is over.
From there, you'll wrestle your way through tournaments from zero to hero, taking on all comers on your route to the top. The more "dynamic" the motion you perform, the more high impact your move will be. Somewhat strangely, the press release actually mentions that you'll have to "sell" the moves the other wrestlers inflict on you, which is something you'd never have read in the 80s, when the wrestling world had the general public convinced it was a legitimate sporting competition. There's also an interesting sounding multiplayer mode, which lets you work as a tag team with a friend, providing an ingenious way of getting around Kinect's hardware limitations, and the problems that come with trying to play a Kinect game with someone standing right next to you.
Quite how it's all going to work remains to be seen - what happens when you get body slammed, for instance? Are you going to be expected to throw yourself through your living room table? Leap off your sofa as if it were a turnbuckle? Or will you just have to lie down, and have the camera track you from there? It's a tricky one - but we're certainly interested to see how the developers manage it. Once they've cleared that up, there's only one question that's left to be answered.
What'cha gonna do, Hulkamaniacs - what'cha gonna do, when Kinect, and Hulkamania, run wild, on, youuuuu, grrrrraggghhhh!
