Excalibur bring Space Overlords and Perfect Universe to console

UK publisher sets its sights on consoles with a pair of PS4/PS3/PS Vita releases

Excalibur bring Space Overlords and Perfect Universe to console
22nd February, 2016 By Ian Morris

Best known for their PC simulation titles, like American Truck Simulator, Bus Simulator and European Ship Simulator, it seems change is in the air at Banbury based publisher Excalibur Games, as the company have announced their intention to expand their line-up to console formats, leading the way with two rather unique games for the PS3, PS4 and PS Vita.

Leading the pack is Space Overlords, a game that seems to be all about blowing things up. Taking on the role of said overlord on a mission for revenge, it's up to you to destroy literally anything and everything in sight, levelling entire planets as you go, whilst doing your best to not have your destructive streak cut short by those pesky planetary defences. With a four player split-screen mode, a mission editor that lets you create your own planets, and an impressive 56 missions to play through, this could be a great pick up and play game.

As a perfect foil to the in your face explosions of Space Overlords is another indie-style title, Perfect Universe, a game with a mesmerising black-and-white cartoon art style. With gameplay divided up into three unique modes, you'll be platforming through 2D levels; wrestling with gravity whilst trying to fly a space ship; and controlling an alien known only as Mr Legs, Octodad style, with control over each leg separately - presumably one stick for each. And if that doesn't sound crazy enough, there's always the same-console four player mode, which adds even more gravity bending weirdness into the mix, with Moon Golf and Volleyball, Gravity Dodgeball (like Dodgeball, only with gravity that changes), and Rocket Ball (football, with spaceships) amongst the range of weird ideas that sound great for when you've got a few friends round on the sofa. You can see how it all works below:

Marking Excalibur's console debut, and plugging a gap for some much needed local multiplayer fun, both titles are due for release at some point in April on PS3, PS4 and PS Vita, just narrowly after their PC launch in March. Check back then for full reviews!
