Epic Mickey is still looking epic

Darker than your average Disney game, but not scary dark.

Epic Mickey is still looking epic

Epic Mickey is still looking as epic as before, with new screenshots and a trailer released last night at Nintendo's conference at the Electronic Entertainment Expo - as well as more details about how the gameplay will work. The game is a role playing/adventure game, with added elements of 2D side scrolling platforming, like in the Steamboat Mickey level:

Complete with floating cows.

Disney's Epic Mickey game takes place in the world of the Cartoon Wasteland - an alternate world filled with Disney's failed and forgotten efforts, ruled by Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, Mickey's half-brother, who was actually the real life precursor to the famous Mouse. Playing as Mickey Mouse himself, armed with paint, paint thinner and a paint brush, you'll be able to alter the world of the Cartoon Wasteland however you see fit, on the way to becoming either an epic hero, or a feared entity.

For this game, Disney have introduced the idea of "playstyle matters" - a concept where players are able to "creatively tackle different challenges in the world, to explore all the possibilities and storylines - but with consequences for their chosen actions" - meaning that, depending on your actions, Mickey may not end up being such a hero after all.

Mickey decides his house could do with a lick of paint.

A few weeks ago, we reported that Epic Mickey was rumoured to be undergoing a graphical revamp before the Electronic Entertainment Expo, to try to make it look more like the original concept art - although, from the new screenshots, we haven't seen an awful lot of evidence for this, but the game certainly doesn't look any worse for it.

Not quite the graphical redo some people were hoping for, but looking good nonetheless...

Much of the Cartoon Wasteland environments are based on films and shorts - such as the iconic Steamboat Mickey cartoon - and the real life Disney theme parks, with places such as Skull Mountain getting a look in.

And for the collectophiles, there are seventy five virtual Disney pins (like the ones from the Disney Store) to find - by completing challenges, quests and finding hidden items.

Disney's Epic Mickey is due out in time for Christmas this year, exclusively for the Nintendo Wii.
