Yesterday, Microsoft launched a new smartphone app in preparation for the launch of the third instalment of the Fable franchise, which launches on the 29th of October. The Fable III: Kingmaker app, which you can download from it's official site, lets you earn gold, by capturing various real life places using your phone's GPS system, which can then be transferred to your Xbox 360 game.
First, you'll need to choose where your allegiances lie - whether you'd prefer to be a loyal Royal follower, or you'd rather be a Rebel, fighting against the tyranny of a wayward king - and then plant a virtual flag for your team on the spot you're standing on, changing it's colour to match the Rebels or Royalists. This spot could be anywhere you are in the UK - Birmingham, London, Newcastle or wherever, and at the end of each day, the team with the most flags on that spot conquers it. At the end of each week, the total amount of territories held by each team will be calculated, with the winning team receiving 1,000 gold each.
The gold can then be spent in game, on anything you like, from clothes and other things to customise your character, to new swords or weapons, to manor houses and presents for your loved ones. Or you could gamble it all away on the pub games.
Fable III is set many years after the events of Fable II, where the land of Albion is stuck under the corrupt and tyrannical rule of Logan, who is believed to have murdered the previous ruler of Albion (your Fable II character, if you had one). Playing as your created Hero/Heroine, you begin your quest to defeat king Logan and become the new leader. Along your journey, the choices you make will change the world around you, either for the greater good or your own personal gain. Your actions could make you the greatest ruler to ever live - or turn you into the tyrant you rebelled against.
