There haven't been many games announced for Nintendo's new 3D-without-glasses handheld, the 3DS, but, with the kickoff of the Tokyo Games Show in Japan, that's all changed, with the announcement of My Garden.
A new game from EA Play, the label that brought you Family Game Night, Monopoly, and Risk, My Garden is seemingly EA's tribute to Viva Pinata. Letting you put your green fingers to the test wherever you are, My Garden lets you, well, build your own garden, in one of six themed areas.
If you don't know your begonias from your daffodils, though, there's no need to worry here, as Tanuki, the helpful, badger-come-panda thing you see in these screenshots is there to lead you through. He'll be your guide for the game, setting you challenges, and helping you to complete them.
It all sounds like it'll play a lot like Viva Pinata, with you planting new flowers, and tending to your garden, in order to attract "friendly critters". Sadly, it sounds like these animals will mostly be butterflies, birds, or insects variety, rather than the cats, dogs, elephants, mice, and other cute animals of Viva Pinata - but it's a start.
Along with the potential for butterflies to fly at you, out of the 3DS's 3D screen, the game looks set to make use of the 3DS' other features. If your garden's getting overrun by critters who're a little bit too keen to sniff your flowers, a simple shake of the console will send them packing.
You'll progress through the game by designing interesting gardens, attracting rare creatures, and then photographing them using a camera mode. Along with unlocking new levels, and challenges, your best pictures can even be saved, and then shared with your friends - hopefully even with those who don't own a copy of the game.
My Garden is set to release alongside the 3DS' North American and UK launch - whenever that might be. We'll hopefully be finding out, come the 29th of September.
