Dragon Age 3 announced

New instalment in fantasy role playing series announced - but little else known.

Dragon Age 3 announced
19th September, 2012 By Ian Morris

Dragon Age was one of those games that defied expectations. Presented to the world as a blood filled, violence fuelled gore-fest, with a trailer set to the dulcet tones of Marilyn Manson, the game, thankfully, was nothing like its advertising campaign, and instead was every bit the epic you'd expect from BioWare, the creators of sprawling sci-fi games like Mass Effect, and before that, fantasy epics Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale.

A fantasy role playing game, Dragon Age wrapped a winding, well written story, with entertaining characters, into a vast, fantasy-inspired world. As is often the way in role playing games, the gameplay here was about more than just the combat, as your actions and reactions could influence the game's world, with the story, and your relationship with the game's characters changing based on the things you said and did. Garnering quite the following, the original game, Dragon Age: Origins sold well enough to garner an expansion pack, a sequel, and countless downloadable add-ons - and now, news has slipped out that a third game's in the works.

So far, the logo's all we have to go on.

Unlike the Spanish one, however, news of Dragon Age 3: Inquisition wasn't entirely unexpected. Rumours have been flying around the internet for months prior that a new Dragon Age game was in development, after news slipped out that a previously announced expansion for Dragon Age 2 had been scrapped, in favour of working on "other opportunities" for the series - a phrase which meant a fully fledged sequel always seemed to be on the cards.

Sadly, though, while we're desperate for so much of a glimpse of the game, publishers EA seem have followed in the current games industry trend of announcing a game, and then saying nothing else about it. There's no teaser trailer, no screenshots, no plot details - not even a press release. Instead, all there is is an open letter from the game's producer, which does little other than confirm the game's in development, and that there'll be a new graphics engine in place, ready to power all sorts of fancy visual trickery.

Still, despite the lack of specifics, we at Everybody Plays are still looking forward to putting on our suits of armour and stepping back into the world of Thedas. After all, we thought enough of Dragon Age 2 to award it a hefty 9/10, so it's fair to say we've got high hopes for the sequel. Although little's been announced so far, we'll be keeping our ears to the ground for further details.
