The critically acclaimed, Kickstarter backed PC role playing game Divinity: Original Sin, was a huge smash hit in 2014 - but as a PC only game, it perhaps missed out on a large chunk of the market. Thankfully, console owners will soon get the chance to sharpen their broadswords and pull back their crossbows, as developers Larian Studios have announced a brand new "enhanced" edition will be coming to PC, Mac, SteamOS, Linux - and the PS4 and Xbox One - soon.
Promising to be more of an upgrade than the "enhanced edition" subtitle makes it sound, Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition will pack in all the fun of the original game, plus new improved graphics, crystal-clear sound and fully voiced dialogue, new game quests, a brand spanking new story (complete with a new ending just to keep original players guessing!), and, perhaps most importantly, split-screen co-op, something that's instantly got us excited at Everybody Plays towers. With a controller-friendly makeover letting dedicated console players (like myself) to kick back and enjoy in comfort, and a slick new interface making the sometimes tricky role playing menus a doddle to navigate with either a controller or a mouse, this looks set to be giving Diablo III a run for its money in the co-op role playing stakes - although whether it'll support four players, or just two, remains to be seen.
Larian's somewhat sparse official game site has broken down the Enhanced Edition features as follows:
- Brand new characters all now with fully voiced dialogue (no more speed reading!)
- In game dialogue choices for use in co-op mode
- A host of new content, and all new non-linear gameplay and quests
- Enhanced visuals and crisp new sound effects
- A completely modified storyline with a reworked ending
- A new level and character modifying engine
And what's more, the Enhanced Edition will also be completely free to owners of Original Sin!
Perhaps unusually, though, as of the time of writing, there's nothing in the way of a trailer, or even a few screens to show off these new features - so to get a taste for the game, we'll just have to rely on the original trailer below:
With a wide array of upgrades, a pretty substantially expanded story, and split-screen co-op to boot, Divinity: Original Sin Enchanced Edition is one we'll be keeping an eye on - and we suggest you do too! With the giant gaming convention E3 now only a few weeks away, we can be sure of hearing much, much more soon.
