While this year's Skylanders-alike, Disney Infinity 2.0 may have been a bit hit and miss, Disney have never been ones to just let a series die. Not when they have so many killer licenses they can dip their toes into to rejuvenate the series in a flash, anyway.
Taking the "put real life figures on a base to play as them in the game" concept of Skylanders, and putting a Disney spin on it, each game so far has had a bit of a theme. While the first game dealt with Disney/Pixar films, and Disney Infinity 2.0 invaded the Marvel universe, folks have long speculated where the third game may take us. And while there have been pretty big hints dropped - from John Vignocchi telling fans they can expect to hear about the next game "in the future, but that's far, far away", to the lightsaber Easter egg unlocked at the end of Disney Infinity 2.0 - none have been quite as big as this.
As per tradition after launching a huge title that perhaps hasn't sold as well as they were hoping, Disney have sent around a survey to those who've registered either the original game, or 2.0, asking them for their thoughts on all things Disney, Disney Infinity, and its gaming competition. While much of the survey is pretty non-eventful, the last page contains perhaps the most solid confirmation yet that Disney Infinity 3.0 will be heading to the forest moon of Endor and beyond.
As seen in above, the very last question in the survey asks what figures you'd like to see come to the game. But amongst the fairly obvious fan favourites like Loki, Cinderella, and Mulan (yes please!), there are a few that seem a little bit out of place with the current game - like Darth Vader, R2D2, Chewbacca, Obi-Wan (young) and Princess Leia. Star Wars: Disney Infinity? It's as good as confirmed.
With the new Star Wars film out at the end of next year (at least in the US), and Star Wars mania set to grip the world once more, it'd make good business sense to say the least. Eager to make the most out of their investment in Lucasfilm, and with Disney and Star Wars going way back (we're keeping our fingers crossed for a Star Tours Play Set...), here's hoping that, for Disney Infinity, all the pieces will fall into place, third time lucky.
