Disney Infinity 2.0 adds Marvel characters
Kicking things off with one of the biggest announcements this week, comes sort-of official news of a Disney Infinity sequel. While the idea the best selling toy/game crossover will be getting a sequel may be about as surprising as the 9:41 to London Marylebone turning up on time, the trailer shown above at least confirms the idea that the next iteration of the game will feature Marvel characters too, opening the door to a whole cavalcade of possibilities. While it's not yet clear whether this will be a true sequel, or simply a slightly upgraded PS4/Xbox One version with new figures, Disney Infinity: Version 2.0 is expected some time later this year. We'll bring you more when we get it!
Tomodachi Life is coming to Europe
You heard it here first. Just a fortnight ago, we brought news of a rumour that Nintendo would be bringing its crazy life-simulator, Tomodachi Life, to Europe - and now, Nintendo have confirmed it themselves, by way of one of the funniest trailers that's ever been made. A game that takes you, your friends, and your family (in Mii form), plonks them all on an island together, and lets you "play God" as they get into all sorts of ridiculous situations, Tomodachi Life is a game that's like no other. Whether you find love, friendship, or your true calling as the lead singer in a hair metal band, Tomodachi Life is a game that relies on humour, creating a tongue in cheek soap opera starring people you know. With each character having their own voice (so they can tell you what they're thinking), and their own personalities, there are endless possibilities - and it goes without saying, you should expect the unexpected. Now confirmed for a release on these shores, the game launches on the 6th June.
How to Train Your Dragon 2
It may seem strange to say it, but we're just a few months away from the glorious British summer, and that means two things are inevitable - 1) it'll start to rain more, and 2) there'll be some kids films making their way to the cinema. And as though the EU had recently passed a piece of legislation making it illegal to release a kids' film without an appropriate tie-in game, publishers Namco Bandai and Little Orbit Games have announced their plans to bring a gaming adaptation of upcoming film How To Train Your Dragon 2 to Xbox 360, Wii U, Wii, 3DS and PS3, which will be hitting shelves sometime "this summer", to tie in with the film's release in June. With the same high flying, dragon riding, beast training action of the film, all set on the wonderfully named Viking Island of Berk, we'll hopefully be bringing you more on this soon.
Five year old hacks Xbox One
OK, so perhaps "hacks" is too strong a term, but still - a five year old from San Diego has outsmarted Microsoft's security features on the Xbox One, exposing a glitch that sounds too good to be true. While Kristoffer's dad, like most responsible parents, had password protected his Xbox One account, stopping his young son from being able to play games that wouldn't be suitable, his parents were surprised when they came down one morning to find him playing games that he shouldn't be able to play. It turns out that the five year old had been able to bypass the Xbox One's security features in an easily reproducible way - all he had to do was enter a false password when prompted, and then, on the next screen, fill the box with spaces. Press enter, and he logged in to his dad's account, with full access to his library of mature games. While the glitch has now been fixed, it's a handy reminder that you can never fully rely on parental controls.
Nintendo shutting down free downloads for DS games
And finally, in some important news for anyone who owns one of the following DS games, Nintendo have announced that any free downloadable content will soon be coming to an end. After having previously announced their plans to switch off online functionality for DS and Wii titles, which would see online play, and voice chat rendered inaccessible on titles that support it, Nintendo have confirmed that the decision will also prevent you from downloading any free add-ons after a certain date.
While Professor Layton games have a range of free puzzle packs for download, Animal Crossing has several furniture items, and Dragon Quest IX offers a selection of quests, all of these will become inaccessible after the 20th May - so if you haven't already, you'll want to fire up each of the games below, and download your freebies before it's too late.
