Trick or treat? If you're a Pokemon X and Y owner, the answer this October is definitely treat, as you'll be able to download a special Pokemon for free!
Continuing the series of free Pokemon giveaways, this month's free gift is a special Super Size Pumpkaboo. Looking like the love-child of a werewolf and a pumpkin, Pumpkaboo (and its evolved form Gourgeist) is the only Pokemon capable of learning the seasonally inspired move, Trick-or-Treat, which, somewhat oddly, adds the ghost type to your opponents.
Kind of looks like a half shaved Persian cat. 6/10.
With Astonish, Shadow Sneak, and Scary Face rounding out its moves, Pumpkaboo also comes holding the Rocky Helmet item, which can cause damage if the attacking Pokémon makes physical contact. Also of note is that this special distribution marks the first time you could obtain a Pumpkaboo with the ability Insomnia - an ability which prevents the Pokemon being put to sleep by Hypnosis or Yawn - although there's a selection of abilities your Pokemon may come with, so you may have to restart your game until you receive one with the ability you prefer.
It's been suggested that this Pumpkaboo can be used for the upcoming Trick-or-Treat online competition. Registration for this takes place on the Pokémon Global Link website from 16th-23rd of October, with the battles for the competition take place 24th-26th of October. If you want to take part, the only real rule in place is that participants must have a super sized Gourgeist in their party. And the easiest way to get that? By downloading your free Pumpkaboo, and evolving it by trading it!
Super Size Pumpkaboo are extremely rare to catch in game. There are four different size Pumpkaboo available, with the Pokémon's stats varying depending on which size it is. Super Size Pumpkaboo usually have a larger HP stat than other Pumpkaboo - making it a pretty good choice for beginners, or those who fancy a Pokemon tank on their team.
How to download Pumpkaboo on Pokemon X and Y:

Start the game from the 3DS menu.

On the title menu screen select Mystery Gift.

Choose 'Receive Gift', then 'Get via Internet'.
- You'ill then see the option to download Pumpkaboo.
Once downloaded, visit any Pokémon Center and talk to the lady in blue. Also remember Pumpkaboo doesn't have a set ability, so you may want to reset your game until you receive the one you want.
