Cars Playset confirmed for Disney Infinity
12th March, 2013 By Sarah Morris

When Disney Infinity was first announced, it was like Christmas come early for us all - taking the amazing free-form Toy Box mode from the Toy Story 3 game and blowing it up to give you a load of worlds themed around awesome Disney films, each with their own unique missions to complete, we were pleased enough to be getting a sequel to one of our favourite split-screen multiplayer games of all time. But much like Activision's mega-seller Skylanders, Disney Infinity looks set to take things that little bit further, by combining real-world figures and a Skylander's style Portal of Power, with virtual areas to play in - albeit at a slightly higher price than it's competitor. So far we've had sets of characters announced that span The Incredibles, Pirates of the Caribbean and the upcoming Monsters University film, and seemingly, the next on the agenda is Cars.

Set after the events of Cars 2, the story mode sees you returning to Radiator Springs to host an international racing tournament - but before the race can kick off, you'll need to tidy things up first, customising and decorating your town, and towing away vehicles to make way for tourists, before zooming off to pull off gravity-defying tricks in the stunt park. In order to access the Cars levels, characters, and Toy Box items, you'll have to purchase the Cars play set. Coming with four figures - good guy Lightning McQueen, hillbilly tow truck Mater, secret agent Holley Shiftwell and F1 racer Francesco Bernoulli, by placing any of these characters on the Disney equivalent of the Portal of Power, you'll be able to play through the Cars story mode, unlock items for use in Toy Box mode, letting you create your own stunt park, complete with death-defying leaps and exploding buildings, and, of course, play as any of the four characters.

The Cars play set will be available this summer at the game's launch across the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, 3DS, Wii and Wii U - alongside sets from The Incredibles, Monsters University and Pirates of the Caribbean. Until then, we have a trailer to show off the sort of things we can expect to get up to in Radiator Springs later this year:
