At yesterday's American International Toy Fair in New York, Disney have announced that a brand new Cars game will be hitting the shelves, alongside the new film this summer. So far, the game is slated for release on Wii, DS and Xbox 360, with no announcement of a 3DS version as of yet, although it may well be in the pipeline, as the console is being released on the 25th March, well before the supposed release date for the game.
Following the success of the Toy Story 3 game, Avalanche Studios are back in the driving seat this time round, for Cars 2: The Video Game - although it seems the smell of burning rubber may have gone to their heads, as the plot seems more than a little bit unusual. This time round, the Cars characters are training to be world-class spies at a place called CHROME, the Command Headquarters for Recon Operations and Motorised Espionage - and in traditional James Bond style, there'll be a whole host of gadgets and high-tech gizmos to play with. Team this with lots of racing and battles, and you have the makings of a crazy adventure - which, if Toy Story 3 was anything to go by, will be awesome.
Disney have also announced there'll be some crazy interconnectivity between the Cars 2 game and their browser-based, free web game, World of Cars Online, where you and the likes of Mater, Filmore and Sarge can explore Radiator Springs and beyond, which open up as you unlock rewards in the game, although quite how this will work remains to be seen.
As of yet, there's been no official release date announced, bar a lot of hand waving, shrugging and a vague period of summer 2011 - hopefully we'll have a concrete date and some more information soon, so make sure you keep checking back. Until then, allow me... vrooom!
