With a semi-historical bent, and an addictive blend of exploration and action, the Assassin's Creed franchise has been something of a mega hit for Ubisoft. Now in its fourth instalment, the French mega-publisher lifted the lid on some hitherto unseen details about its upcoming action/adventure/stealth, and unfortunately shortened game, Ass Creed: Revelations.
There's a long and winding story behind the Assassin's Creed games so far, so much so that jumping in at the fourth instalment can be a bit of a challenge. All you really need to know to begin with, is that Revelations is set in Constantinople in 1511, a city in the midst of one of its many changes, as the hub of the Ottoman empire. It's a game steeped in history, and if you have even a passing interest in Templars, or Knights in shining armour, there'll be something in here to raise a hair on the back of your neck.
Playing as the nimble, yet slightly older than when we last saw him assassin, Ezio, you're a man on a mission looking for answers, as you attempt to sneak in amongst the crowds, staying undetected as you hunt the cities secrets. Creating your own distractions when you need to, a demo at E3 showed how you can throw a bomb at some guards to cause an explosion, before turning and becoming practically invisible amongst the crowds as the scene descends into chaos. As a master assassin, you have a variety of skills at your hands to make your life a whole lot easier, including the ability to scale buildings practically any building you like, and a medieval version of parkour, making exploring the ancient city a whole lot easier.
With an entire city to explore, and all its secrets to find, combined with another chapter in an already expansive story, Assassin's Creed: Revelations is a game we'll be keeping our eye on closely. We'll bring you more as soon as we get it. The game's set for a release later this year - in the mean time, here's the most recent trailer for the three of Es.
