One of our most anticipated titles of 2016, Unravel really stood out at last summer's E3 show - against a back drop of shooters and sports games, the cutesy platformer couldn't have been more different. Starring a little woollen creature, the inventively titled Yarny, its up to you to traverse the scenic landscapes with the help of the stray thread that trails behind you. Whether it's using it to swing across a pond, lassoing it between two sticks to make an impromptu platform, or using it to abseil down from a high ledge, Unravel is a game much more about using your brain than your reflexes.
Yarny himself was born out of one developer's family holiday, where inspiration struck in the Scandinavian countryside - which prompted him to grab whatever bits and pieces he could and create the game's woolen protagonist, going on to snap him in all kinds of idyllic locales, which later formed the basis for the game. Given Yarny's origin story, it comes as little surprise that Coldwood Studios have been inundated with pictures of fans' own homemade Yarnys, as well as oodles of requests for how to go about creating your own one.
Well, now all your Yarny-crafting related pleas have been answered, as Creative Director Martin Sahlin, Yarny's original creator, has put together a video showing how he created the mascot himself, all those months ago. All you need is some red and white wool and some wire, and you're good to go - Scandinavian fjords and forests optional! And don't forget to tweet @unravel_game with your finished Yarny to help them with their quest to Yarny-ify the whole world! The full video tutorial is below, although if you'd rather have a step-by-step text guide, their website has you covered too.
Unravel is shaping up to be one adorably fun platformer when it launches in just under a month's time, on the 9th February, as a £14.99 download for the PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One. We can't wait!
